M-E Engineers designed the complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and information technology systems for this 50,000 square foot LEED Gold student recreation center on the campus of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. This two story center is used by students and their families and includes 2 basketball courts, a mezzanine level running track, an indoor lap/leisure pool, family water recreation features, therapy spa, boulder wall, outdoor pursuits office, café with gathering area, aerobics/dance classroom facility, spinning cycle area and support areas. Mechanical systems include VAV air handlers serving parallel and shutoff air terminal boxes. Energy efficiency measures include an air-to-air heat recovery unit for the pool with direct evaporative cooling and gas heat, demand controlled ventilation and occupancy based temperature reset. Solar panels provide pool heating.
