Research Complex 1 is the first large-scale building to open at the new Health Sciences Center Campus. At a project cost of $216 million and totaling 650,000 s.f., the complex consists of two buildings, one nine stories and the other 12 stories high, which are connected by a tri-level bridge. A 52,000 sf vivarium facility, bio-medical research laboratories, support facilities, associated office spaces, educational areas and auditorium spaces will occupy the facility. A nuclear magnetic resonator, with a 21-tesla magnet, will provide 3-D imaging of molecules and their interactions within cells. Medical genetics, neurology, cancer, immunology, brain disorders and diabetes will be some of the topics researched. M-E Engineers provided the complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for this project. Research Complex 2 is the second research building at the new Health Sciences Center Campus. At a project cost of $170 million and totaling 530,000 s.f., the complex consists an eleven story building which is connected to Research Complex 1 and Academic Office West by a two bridges. The building consists of a 50,000 sf vivarium facility, bio-medical research laboratories including Bio Safety Level 3 (BSL-3) labs, support facilities and associated office spaces. M-E Engineers is providing the complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for this project.
